Romanoleli (Aversa, 1957) lives and works between Pescara and Naples. After a long period of introspection and research and the first acquisitions by private collections and auction houses, he took the decision to open up to public spaces in 2017. He held his first solo exhibition Romanoleli | Esercizi di memoria, hosted by the Museo delle Genti d’Abruzzo in Pescara in 2022, followed by Ri-Velato, Armando Gioia and Romanoleli, a bi-personal exhibition hosted by F’Art – Spazio Arti Visive Contemporanee in L’Aquila (April/May 2023). His independent in-depth experience has enabled him to develop his own layered and dynamic narrative structure, within which he identifies the multi-centred link between sign, gesture and colour. The works exhibited in this first phase are characterised by the author’s path from minimalism to a more stringent research on volumetries, for a material and at the same time light rendering, combining fabric to cristal, and then galvanised iron to nylon, obtaining iridescent and ultimately three-dimensional effects. From December 6, 2023 to February 23, 2024, Romanoleli landed at the AAIE Centre for Contemporary Art in Rome with his new solo exhibition Seconda Pelle (Second Skin), curated by Mariano Cipollini. This was enriched by new and unreleased works that exasperate this three-dimensionality, in which matter overflowed outside the work. The exhibition was presented at the Mercato Centro Culturale Arte Contemporanea di Argenta in Argenta (Fe), at the invitation of the Municipality and Capit Ravenna, from April 27 to June 2, 2024.
He experiments with an unedited installation by participating from July 27 to August 31, 2024 in the Arte – Natura group show, during the 4th edition of the seminiamo ARTE project in L’Aquila, in which the site-specific work is displayed in an outdoor garden. The sculptural installation imposes itself in the landscape, creating almost a window that integrates with nature, and at the same time emerges forcefully carving out its own area by intercepting light and colors on the moving surface.
His aesthetics has moved through a wide and ever-changing range, passing from the variable tones that cleave the air with nets, which he paints and treated to obtain shininess and transparency, to the hard and sharp splendour of metal that he combines with opaque backgrounds, and canvas carved and stretched to reveal underlying layers.
